Friends of the Black Earth Library Annual Book Sale
Friday, August 9 from 9:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Saturday, August 10 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
The Friends of the Black Earth Public Library are having their annual book sale on August 9 & 10 in the Black Earth Municipal Building. Come shop for hundreds of gently used books, movies, music, and more during library hours. Bring your own bag and fill a bag for only $5. A preview for Friends members only will be during the first half an hour of the sale on Friday, August 9 at 9:30am. Not a member? No worries, buy a membership at the door!
“Adventure Begins at Your Library” Summer Library Program
Our Summer Reading Challenge ends Saturday, August 10! Don't forget to log your reading and activities to earn your Beanstack Badges, and get entered into our grand prize drawings. Also, make sure you have voted for the library project that would like the donations from the Friends of the Black Earth Library to support. Go to blackearthlibrary.org for more details.
Driftless Park Passport Program
It’s our 4th annual Driftless Park Passport program in partnership with Gateway to the Driftless, the Rosemary Garfoot Public Library in Cross Plains, and the Mazomanie Free Library! Starting on August 15th, stop by one of our library locations to pick up your passport and earn fun prizes for exploring local parks. Prizes are available for those of all ages, kids through adults.
Smokey Bear Challenge
Sign up for the Smokey Bear Challenge starting on August 15th and earn prizes for reading books with nature/conservation themes, learning about our environment, and visiting parks. Visit Beanstack starting on August 15th for more information and to get started.

August Activity Grab Bags for Kids
A new bag containing activity sheets, stickers, and a craft will be available starting Thursday, August 1. Stop by the library or call 608-767-4905 to have a bag set aside.
LEGO Club at the Library
Friday, August 2 from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Come to the library and build LEGOS with friends! Best for school-age kids, but the whole family is welcome.
Storytime & Toddler Art
Storytime and Toddler Art will return on Tuesday, September 3 at 11:30am.
Teens
Teen Advisory Board Pizza Party
Tuesday, August 27 from 1:00pm - 2:00pm
Students in grades 6-12 are invited to join us at our Teen Advisory Board Pizza Party. We will be playing games, planning future programs, and eating snacks!
Adults
Spice of the Month Club
Each month we will be providing "take-and-make" kits featuring a different spice, herb, or blend. Each kit will include information about the featured spice, two simple recipe suggestions, and enough spice to make both of the recipes included. The kits are free, but supplies are limited. Please, only one kit per household. For August we’ll be offering dill weed.
Garden Club
Thursday, August 22 from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park
Veggies, herbs, and flowers, oh my! Garden Club is an informal discussion with area gardeners and growers where you can get advice from others in the community. Whether you're just starting out with your garden or are a Master Gardener, please come by to ask questions, share your experiences, and swap veggies with growers in the area! This is a volunteer-led program.
Blood Pressure Monitoring with Mount Horeb Family Pharmacy
Friday, August 30, 9am-11am, in the Black Earth Municipal Building Meeting Room
Drop-in to the library to meet with a pharmacist from Mount Horeb Family Pharmacy and get a blood pressure reading from a professional! Learn about the risks, and about the Libraries with Heart program offered by Black Earth Public Library, sponsored by the Wisconsin chapter of the American Heart Association. We'll also have calming activities like coloring and music.
Get a blood pressure reading on Friday, August 30 in the Community Room at Black Earth Municipal Building. Free. No registration required.
Book Discussion
Wednesday, September 4 at 10:30 a.m. in the Black Earth Municipal Building Meeting Room
Join us for a discussion of the memoir The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid by Bill Bryson. Copies of the book, including large print and audio versions, are available at the library.

Thursday, August 29: 12pm-4pm
For notary services outside of office hours, call ahead at 608-767-4905 to ensure the notary is available. Notary services are offered free of charge. Always bring a photo ID for notarizations.
