Library News
“Color Our World” Summer Library Program
Get your Summer Library Program bag starting Monday, June 2! We’ll have bags available for children from birth – 5th grade, students in 6th – 12th grade, and adults. Every bag includes summer Bingo Cards and a prize! The Friends of the Black Earth Library will donate $1 to a library project for every Bingo Card turned in. Plus, there will be Grand Prize Drawings for kids, teens, and adults at the end of the program. Visit our website for more information, and for details about our upcoming summer events.
Kids
Move It Monday in Veterans Park
Mondays, June 9, 16, 23, 30 from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Come sing, dance, play, and get moving in Veterans Park! Great for kids ages 2-6, but the whole family is welcome. Please note: Outdoor programs will move into the library if the weather is stormy.
Storytime at the Library
Tuesdays, June 10 – July 29 from 11:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Join us for stories, songs, and fun activities with friends. Best for babies and toddlers, but the whole family is welcome.
Toddler Art at the Library
Tuesdays, June 10 – July 29 from 12:00 p.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Come create, explore, and play at the library! Our art experiments for little hands are designed to encourage curiosity and build motor skills. Enjoy the process and come dressed for a mess.
Crafternoon in Veterans Park
Wednesdays, June 11 – July 30 from 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Make fun crafts in the park on Wednesday afternoons. Great for kids 5 and up, but the whole family is welcome. No registration required. Please note: Outdoor programs will move into the library if the weather is stormy.
Stuffed Animal Sleepover at the Library
Thursday, June 12
Drop off your stuffed animal any time on Thursday, June 12 for a Stuffed Animal Sleepover in the library. Visit our social media to see the fun activities and antics the toys get up to during the sleepover. Then pick up your stuffed animal anytime on Friday, June 13 along with photos of all the fun! Drop-offs from 9:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Pick-ups from 9:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
Wii Games at the Library
Fridays, June 13 – June 27 from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Play fun Wii games with friends at the library! Best for school-age kids, but all ages are welcome.
Teens
Tween & Teen Nail Art
Thursday, June 12 from 1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Decorate your nails for summer with friends! Polish and tools will be provided, but feel free to bring your own too. Best for students in 4th grade and up.
Tween & Teen Tote Bag Decorating
Thursday, June 19 from 1:30 p.m. -2:30 p.m.
Paint and draw on tote bags and pencil bags with friends. All supplies will be provided. Best for students in 4th grade and up.
Teen Advisory Board Monthly Meeting
Monday, June 23 from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m.
Students in grades 6-12 are invited to join us at our next Teen Advisory Board Monthly Meeting. We will be playing games, decorating the teen section, planning future programs, and eating snacks!
Teen Coffee & Crafts
Thursday, June 26 from 1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Come to the library to make a bunch of different crafts including jewelry and stickers. Plus, you can enjoy making your own iced coffee and/or iced tea. Best for students in 6th grade and up.
Adults
Adult Reading Challenge
Starting June 2, take on the challenge of Summer Bingo to win one of three Grand Prizes! Stretch your reading muscles with new authors and genres. Each Bingo completed on your card is eligible for a drawing entry, and there will be additional drawings through the summer for tickets for American Players Theater. Please sign the registration at that time.
Spice of the Month Kits
Each month we will be providing "take-and-make" kits featuring a different spice, herb, or blend. Each kit will include information about the featured spice, two simple recipe suggestions, and enough spice to make both of the recipes included. The kits are free, but supplies are limited. Please, only one kit per household. For June we’ll be offering thyme.
Silent Book Club
Mondays, June through August from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Need a quiet place to read? The library’s the place every Monday. Starting June 2, stop in and relax for an hour, and at 1:45 p.m. you can briefly share what you are currently reading. It’s a great opportunity to take a break during your busy day.
Garden Club
Thursday, June 12 at 6:00 p.m. in Veterans Park
Garden Club is an informal discussion with area gardeners and growers where you can get advice from others in the community. Come by to ask questions, share your experiences, and swap veggies with growers in the area! Garden Club meets in Veterans Memorial Park (weather permitting) during the spring, summer, and fall. This is a volunteer-led program.
Crafty Connections Club: Macrame Plant Hanger
Wednesday, June 18 from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Spend some time this summer exploring your creativity and connecting with other adults. The library will be showcasing a different project on the third Wednesday of the month throughout the summer. Grab a friend and join us for some relaxing fun – no experience needed!
Next Book Discussion
Wednesday, July 2 at 10:30 a.m. in the Black Earth Municipal Meeting Room
Join us for a discussion of the novel Dog On It by Spencer Quinn. Copies of the book, including large print and audio copies, are available at the library.
